Remember Sikh Victims
IAGB Remembers the Victims of Oak Creek Gurdwara Tragedy
On August 5, 2012, a gunman walked into a gurdwara, the Sikh Temple, in Oak Creek, WI, and began firing indiscriminately upon the volunteers, who were preparing for “langar,” the traditional serving of free food to all visitors. Six innocent men and women, who had gone to their temple to pray, lost their lives that day.
The India Association of Greater Boston (IAGB) expresses its deepest sympathies to the families of those who lost their lives in this senseless act of violence. We pray for the speedy recovery of those who were injured. We condemn the recent spate of crimes of hate and horrific violence––be it the gurdwara rampage, the shootings in Aurora, CO, or the burning down of a mosque in Joplin, MO.
The heritage of our association is a precious bequest of our ancestors from the land of Mahatma Gandhi, the champion of non-violence, and who inspired Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.in this land. It is fitting, therefore, that we commemorate this event with a vigil to pay homage tothose who lost their lives at the gurdwara. Let’s all pray for the innocent worshippers who fell victim to this monstrous act of violence that seems to be rooted in ignorance, intolerance, and rabid prejudice.

Remembering Kanagala Seshadri Rao
At some time on Thursday April 19nth 2012 Kanagala Seshadri Rao was shot to death by an unknown assailant in Boston.
To protest this senseless and wanton act, and to counter the spread pf violence, India Association of Greater Boston, BU Indian Graduate Student Association, BU India Club, BU officials, SAHELI and several community organizations hosted a Candlelight Vigil on Sunday April 29, 7:30 PM at Boston University.
The Vigil was held at Boston University – Marsh Plaza.
In a letter to the Boston University community, President Robert Brown
wrote that the University is deeply saddened at the loss of one of our
students. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim’s family and
friends,” Brown wrote. “And we are outraged at this crime.”
“He excelled in the classroom,” says Kenneth Freeman, the School of
Management’s Allen Questrom Professor and Dean. “He was admired and
respected by his classmates. It’s a tremendous loss for his family and for
BU. He had a bright future.”
Join us to express your sorrow and extend your condolences to Mr. Seshadri’s family.
Thank you.
